La infundada identificación de Íscar (Valladolid) con el municipio romano de "Ipsca"

Abstract

El presente artículo recoge los primeros resultados de una investigación enfocada en la actualización y optimización del conocimiento sobre el periodo romano en Iscar. Con carácter previo al estudio de las evidencias arqueológicas presentes en la localidad, este primer trabajo aborda el asunto de su injustificada identificación con Ipsca, aún necesitado de una explicación concluyente y satisfactoria desde la perspectiva historiográfica vallisoletana. Con ese objetivo se lleva a cabo una revisión crítica del asunto y se presentan los principales argumentos que han contribuido a situar de modo indiscutible este municipio romano en el yacimiento homónimo de los Cortijos de Iscar (Baena, Córdoba).

The present paper contains the first results of a research focused on the updating and optimization of knowledge about the Roman period in Iscar. Prior to the study of the archaeological evidence present in the town, this first paper deals with the issue of the unjustified identification with Ipsca, still in need of a conclusive and satisfactory explanation from the Valladolid historiographic perspective. With this objective is carried out a critical review of the topic, presenting the main arguments that have contributed to place this Roman municipium in the homonym archaeological site of Cortijos de Iscar (Baena, Córdoba) in an indisputable way.
