AB Marcus Ludwig, in his Histoire des Wandales print in Paris in 1836, quotes the book Mientras, schediasmata antiqua (Madrid, 1645), which contained paragraphs of Victor Cartennensis, African bishop, whose works have not reached us. Emil Hübner deduced that the book should be a Spanish fake by Thomas Tamayo Vargas or Jerónimo Román de la Higuera. The article reviews these attributions, the life and work of Marcus, and concludes that Mientras, schediasmata antiqua was a mystification of Marcus himself, caused by a mental illness suffered since young and led to his death in 1843.
