RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 A proposal for teaching American History through literature: literary representations of colonial America A1 Marín Ruiz, Ricardo A1 Rigal Aragón, Margarita A2 Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid K1 Filología Inglesa AB The essay shows a proposal of teaching History through literary texts in the framework of the subject taught at the College of Humanities of Albacete (University of Castilla-La Mancha) “Lengua Inglesa y su Literature II”, in which students take classes of American Literature. In order to give a detailed and clear view of how the methodology depicted throughout the ensuing pages is put into practice, the authors cite examples of literary texts pertaining to the Colonial period and show how they are used to make the students understand aspects from the historical context. After having introduced a brief reference to the theoretical debate concerning the relationship between History and Literature, and having shown how the methodological proposal isolating literary texts from other disciplines -in this case History- so that students can get a wider and deeper comprehension of the events from the past.
