AB Modern societies due to their sacred nature needed virgins and saints to feel protected. Our Lady of S. Lorenzo became the unofficial patron of Valladolid from the XVII century. In de following pages we will focus on the XVIII century, when the identity between the city and this image became estronger, the Town Hall having played an important role, it monopolized it on account of devotion and prestige. The colective religiousness and, about all, manipulation done by the local authorities and the problems created between them, are the main points of this study about the patron of Valladolid.
