AB Silence was praised by moralists as an undeniable virtue of maidservants. However, court proceedings allowed verifying examples of maidservants that violated that model, pronouncing insults that hurt the honor of other individuals. There were also proceedings in which the insulted one was the maidservant, who was also in an uncertain situation at different levels. This paper analyses the extensive variety of verbal violence incidents centered on those maidservants, based on court documents of the Royal Chancery of Valladolid.
