AB Prolyl-endopeptidase supplementation hasbeen proposed to favour gliadin degradationas an alternative treatment for coeliacdisease (CD), although the real usefulnessof this therapy in vivo is still under discussion.1 However, our data point to alternativetreatments aiming to modify the intestinalmicrobiota in patients with CD by the useof probiotics and/or prebiotics. We proposethat the induction of gliadin proteolysis inthe human gut might not be the solutionbut the origin of CD.
