RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 Natural and cyclical unemployment: A stochastic frontier decomposition and economic policy implications A1 Martín Román, Ángel L. AB This work splits effective unemployment into two components:natural unemployment, and cyclical unemployment. For that purpose, an estimation of thestochastic cost frontier is performed. The study isfocused on the 17 autonomous communities in Spainover the period 1982–2012. Results evidence greaterimportance of the natural component as the principaldeterminant of effective unemployment. When comparingthese results with those obtained applying univariatefilters, the distribution in the components of the effectiveunemployment changes, increasing the importanceof cyclical unemployment. This result indicates that thepolicymakers should have a greater power to implementaggregate demand policies.
