The purpose of this dissertation is to examine common Hiberno-English features in Dublin through films representations making reference to the social classes. I will give an overview of Hiberno-English history and development, in order to reflect the distinctions from Standard English and then the explanation of the division of Dublin in areas, which mark the social classes division. After that, I will explain the essential features of Hiberno-English in order to study the sociolinguistic variation in Dublin. Finally, an analysis of the features will be discussed according to the social classes of the speakers through the representation of the Irish films Intermission and Sing Street, whose characters reflect the working-class and the middle-class.es
