The aim of this pilot study was to characterizespontaneous electroencephalography (EEG) activity indementia due to AD using bispectral analysis. Five minutes ofEEG activity were recorded from 17 patients with moderatedementia due to AD and 19 age-matched controls. Bispectrumresults revealed that AD patients are characterized by anincrease of phase coupling at low frequencies in comparisonwith controls. Additionally, some bispectral features calculatedfrom the bispectrum showed significant differences betweenboth groups (p < 0.05, Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni’scorrection). Finally, a stepwise logistic regression analysis witha leave-one-out cross-validation procedure was used forclassification purposes. An accuracy of 86.11% (sensitivity =88.24%; specificity =84.21%) was achieved. This study suggeststhe usefulness of bispectral analysis to provide further insightsinto the underlying brain dynamics associated with AD SN 978-1-5090-2809-2 YR 2017 FD 2017 LK http://uvadoc.uva.es/handle/10324/31352 UL http://uvadoc.uva.es/handle/10324/31352 LA eng NO Producción Científica DS UVaDOC RD 28-abr-2024
