Este artículo analiza la conflictiva relación entre diversas corrientes intelectuales (y bloques sociales) de la Alemania del cambio de siglo y la gran ciudad moderna (Grobstadt). El estudio de la cuestión de la Grobstadt en autores como Tönnies, Nietzsche, Simmel, Naumann, Tessenow, Sombart o Weber, entre otros, permite establecer cuatro formas o momentos en dicha relación: gestación del conflicto entre el trabajo intelectual y la economía capitalista expresada en la Grobstadt, intentos de síntesis de ambos factores desde la cultura o desde el capital, revisión nostálgica de la pequeña ciudad preindustrial (Kleinstadt) y, por último, abandono de los planteamientos ideológicos en beneficio de una reforma técnica orientada a la resolución de los problemas de la Grobstadt.
This article analyzes the conflictive relationship between the different intellectual tendencies (and social blocs) in the Germany of the change of century and, the great modern town (Grobstadt). The study ofthe Grobstadt by authors like: Tönnies, Nietzsche, Simmel, Naumann, Tesenow, Sombart o Weber, among others, allow us to establish four moments in this relationship: conflict between intellectual work and capitalist economy expressed in the Grobstadt gestation, attempts of synthesizing both factors from the culture and from the capital, nostalgic review of the small industrial town (Kleinstadt), and last but not least, the abandon of the ideological principles in the interest of a technical reform oriented to solve the Grobstadt problems
