En el presente artículo se estudian los insultos y ataques que Demóstenes y Esquines se dirigen uno a otro en diferentes discursos, se adopta un enfoque pragmático, pues para comprender un insulto hay que partir de los presupuestos compartidos por emisor y receptor y analizar los valores culturales de la sociedad en la que se genera, así como observar si se recurre a un léxico socialmente marcado como ofensivo, grosero o vulgar, o a uno no marcado. De este modo, se clasifican los insultos en diferentes campos semánticos (orígenes de la persona, crianza y educación, ocupación u oficio, defectos morales y comportamientos censurados socialmente, religión, sexo y defectos físicos o mentales) y se profundiza en la interpretación de algunos pasajes de ambos autores.
In the current paper the insults and attacks that Demosthenes and Aeschines address to one another in several speeches are analyzed. A pragmatic approach is adopted because in order to understand insults it is mandatory to start from the shared assumptions between speaker and hearer, to examine the cultural values of the society in which they are generated and to observe whether they use a vocabulary socially considered as offensive, rude, vulgar or not. Therefore insults are classified in different semantic fields: personal origin, upbringing and education, occupation, moral faults and socially condemned behaviour, religion, sex and physical and mental defects. Finally we go deeply into in the interpretation of some passages by these authors.
