Fuentes de inspiración, iconografía y retrato de Willem van Herp en dos cobres del coleccionismo español

Abstract

The case to be discussed is that of an enigmatic copper plate by the Flemish painter Willem van Herp. The author identifies its source of inspiration while highlighting its unusual iconography, which can also be associated with literary and musical compositions of the time. By comparing this piece with his other works, a possible chronology may be adduced as well and the presence of a self-portrait of the artist in the scene suggested.

Se resuelve en estas páginas el caso de un enigmático cobre del flamenco Willem van Herp. Se identifica su fuente de inspiración y se reconoce una iconografía muy poco habitual, en relación con composiciones literarias y musicales de la época. La comparación con otras obras del pintor permite avanzar una posible cronología y proponer la presencia de su autorretrato en la escena.
