El Estado y marquesado de Astorga: Relaciones de poder, rentas y economía señorial, siglos XVII-XVIII

Abstract

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo fundamental hacer una valoración, desde la óptica de la larga duración, de las rentas e ingresos que recibió el marqués de Astorga en los territorios que, asentados en la provincia de León, estuvieron bajo su jurisdicción durante toda la Edad Moderna. Partiendo de las contabilidades anuales, que durante los siglos XVII y XVIII se llevaron a cabo en la tesorería de la ciudad de Astorga, hemos reconstruido las series anuales de ingresos y gastos de la hacienda señorial. El resultado final pone de manifiesto la menor incidencia de las rentas agrarias relacionadas con el dominio sobre la tierra y el peso hegemónico de las rentas enajenadas (alcabalas) a la Corona, que en buena medida le garantizaron unos ingresos estables y acordes con el crecimiento económico. Esto, unido a la presencia del mayorazgo, permitió que, pese a la quiebra en la que entra su hacienda en el siglo XVII, esta casa señorial se mantuviese en la elite aristocrática española hasta el siglo XIX.

The fundamental objet of this study is to make a valuation of the rents and incomes that Astorga¿s marquis received in the territories of León when they were under his jurisdiction along the Modern Ages. We recovered the annual accounting of Astorga¿s ¿tesorería¿ in the centuries XVII ¿ XVIII. With these documents we could see the sequence of expenditures, incomes and we see basic aspects of the ¿señorial¿ property. We are talking about the fundamental aspects and their evolutions along these two centuries. In the final result we can see the scarce influence of the agrarian incomes in relation of the domain on the land and the hegemonic weight of the alienated incomes to the crown. These alienated incomes guaranteed a regular incomes. All of these and the existence of the ¿mayorazgo¿, allowed that this house where in the aristocrat elite even the century XIX.
