Roberto Bolaño: la declinación del «yo»

Abstract

The relationship between autobiography and fiction, as well as the phenomenon of the double, are one of the most popular subjects among the investigators of the works of Roberto Bolaño. Many critics intend to “open” his texts with a “factual key” and discover his truth, describe his way of mixing reality with fantasy. In other words, one of the central problems in Roberto Bolaño’s ouvre is the phnomenon of the autofiction. Instead of participating in the terminological discussions surrounding the subject, in this essay I propose an approach to the different sides of Bolaño through a juxtaposition of three ideas: the dialogism of Mikhail Bakhtin, the “paralactic mode” of Hal Foster and, specifically, the “sylleptic subject” described by a Polish scholar, Ryszard Nycz. These theoretical devices facilitate the description of the process in which Bolaño effectuates the declination of his own identity. The essay consists of a metaphor drawned form the texts of Jorge Luis Boges, a response to other critical readings of Bolaño’s autofiction and an analysis of the literary investigations described by the chilean author. It is concluded by an approach to the “savagery”, Bolaño’s intrinsic condition which reveals itself in the labyrinthic paradigm of his “I”.

Los temas más populares de los análisis de la obra de Roberto Bolaño conciernen a los elementos autobiográficos contenidos en sus novelas y a los dobles del autor. Muchos críticos tratan de “abrir” sus textos con la “llave factográfica” y descubrir la verdad sobre Bolaño, describir su modo de mezclar la realidad con fantasía. En otras palabras, uno de los problemas centrales de la obra de Bolaño es el fenómeno de la autoficciñon. En vez de participar en la discusión terminológica concerniente a ese concepto, en este ensayo propongo un acercamiento a varios rostros de Bolaño a través de la yuxtaposición de tres ideas: el dialogismo de Mijaíl Bajtín, el parallax como modo de operar de Hal Foster y, sobre todo, el “sujeto siléptico” del investigador polaco Ryszard Nycz. Las tres herramientas teóricas sirven para describir el proceso de la “declinación” de la propia identidad por parte del escritor. El ensayo está compuesto por una paralela con textos de Jorge Luis Borges, una respuesta a otras lecturas críticas de Bolaño y un análisis de las pesquisas literarias descritas por el aturo chileno. Lo concluye un acercamiento al “salvajismo” bolañano, condición del autor perceptible en su laberíntico paradigma del “yo”.
