Género e ideología: el discurso eclesiástico sobre las mujeres en el Valladolid de finales del siglo XIX

Abstract

Los sermones eclesiásticos sobre "la mujer" surgidos en Valladolid a finales del siglo XIX constituyen complejas construcciones ideológicas que pretenden regir el sistema sociopolítico y cultural nacido con la revolución burguesa. En este marco, el GENERO como categoría de análisis sirve para explicar no sólo como han sido justificadas las diferencias biológicas entre mujeres y hombres, también, sobre todo, como se utilizaron para mantener, trastocar o afianzar las estructuras sociales del poder. Estos discursos son una fuente documental de interés para entender la canalización del valor social de las mujeres hacia la transmisión de los ideales burgueses, la perpetuación de las esferas privada y pública en el sistema, las relaciones sociolaborales, o su intervención en la trama asistencial decimonónica.

The ecclesiastical sermons dealing with "women", that occurred in Valladolid at the end of the nineteenth century form a complex of ideological structures, intending to regulate the social, political and cultural system that had emerged with the liberal revolution. In this frame the GENDER, as a category of analysis, is not only being used to justify the biological differences between man and woman, but above all to maintain, to change or to secure the social structure of authority. These sermons are an interesting source to understand in what manner the social importance of women was directed towards the transmission of middle class ideas, the consolidation of the private and public life within the social and labour system, or its peace-making participation in nineteenth century social help.
