La crisis de 1917 reactivó la vocación política de la Unión Comercial, organización patronal de industriales y comerciantes sevillanos movilizados para la defensa de unos intereses económicos muy concretos. Sus intentos para acceder a los mecanismos de poder en los años 1918-1922 fracasaron al operar al margen y contra el sistema político, de ahí que en 1923 la organización pasara a integrarse dentro del mismo sistema que tanto había denostado como corrupto y falto de representatividad.
The 1917 crisis re-activated the political vocation of the Commercial Union, an employer's organization of Sevillian industrialists and merchants, mobilized to defend very concrete economic interests. Their attempts to reach the power mechanisms from 1917 to 1921 failed due to their operation against and on the margin of the political system; and thus, in 1922-1923 the organization incorporates itself into the same system that was once termed corrupt and lacking in representativity.
