El agricultor y la contestación rural han sido los grandes olvidados por la historiografía portuguesa. Se refuta la idea tradicional de que las poblaciones rurales portuguesas, en el fin del Antiguo Régimen, se limitaron a una actitud pasiva o de sencillo apoyo al absolutismo-miguelismo. Se discute las relaciones entre la revolución liberal de 1820 y las luchas y tensiones rurales en Portugal en el segundo decenio del siglo XIX.
The peasants and rural movements of protest and resistance have almost entirely been ignored by the Portuguese historiography. This study denies the traditional idea of the Portuguese peasants at the end of the Ancien Régime being characterized by mere passivity or open support of the absolutism-miguelism. The author discusses the relation between he liberal revolution of 1820 and the struggles and tensions inside the Portuguese rural population during the second decade of the 19th century.
