La dialéctica entre tradiciones y opiniones durante la época contemporánea

Abstract

Es diferenciar entre lo que podemos considerar como tradiciones y cambiantes opiniones es ciertamente difícil para el investigador social, tanto por falta de fuentes (históricas), precisión conceptual, preparación metodológica como porque estamos inmersos en una corriente interpretativa que supervalora todo aquello que puede tener el sello de "tradicional". Se trata de poner de manifiesto en este artículo todas esas dificultades, desmitificar lo que en muchos casos no son más que pseudo tradiciones o simples opiniones cambiantes y puntuales y, desde luego, el peligro historicista (conservador) que esta corriente interpretativa conlleva. A través de tres momentos -Regeneracionismo, II República y Franquismo- se pasa revista a la valoración que han merecido en cada uno de esos momentos de la historia española la dialéctica tradición/modernización. Y, dentro de esta segunda vertiente, el papel innovador de los medios de comunicación social.

Distinguishing between what may be considered tradition of the one hand & changing opinion on the other is genuinely difficult for the social researcher, not simply because of the lack of (historical) sources, of conceptual precision, and of methodological training, but also because we are immersed in an interpretative approach that overvalues all that which might bear the hallmark of being "traditional". The aim of this paper is to highlight the above-mentioned difficulties, to demystify what very commonly are nothing more than pseudo-traditions or mere transitory & changing opinions and, of course, to emphasise the danger of (conservative) historicism that this interpretative approach entails. In each of these periods of Spanish history - The Regenerationist era, the Second Republic, and the era of Francoism-, we will consider how the dialectics between tradition and modernisation has been appraised. From the perspective of the latter, we will further examine the ground-breaking role played by the mass media.
