Los orígenes del republicanismo en Alicante: el partido demócrata (1864-1868)

Abstract

The Democratic Party from which the Republican Party would develop in 1868, began to form in Alicante at the end of the "Bienio Progresista", when a part of Progressivism changed quickly over to Democratic ideas. The years 1864 and 1865 include the greatest organization period of the growing Party with the setting up of circles, clubs and the first committees with different levels of activity: local, district and provincial. Finally, in 1865 the setting up of the magazine Fígaro completed the organizing tasks of the Democratic alicantinos with the aim of spreading their ideology and their party programme.

El partido Demócrata, a partir del cual surgiría en 1868 el Partido Republicano, comenzó a configurarse en Alicante a fines del Bienio Progresista, cuando un sector de progresismo evoluciona rápidamente hacia las posiciones demócratas. Los años 1864 y 1865 enmarcan el período de máxima organización del naciente partido con la constitución de círculos, clubs y los primeros comités en los distintos niveles de actividad: local, partido judicial y provincial. Finalmente, en 1865 la creación de la revista Fígaro completaba las tareas organizativas de los demócratas alicantinos con el objetivo de difundir su ideario y el programa de su partido.
