La crisis del comunismo en Polonia a través del diario El País: la declaración de la Ley Marcial, diciembre de 1981

Abstract

La proclamación de la Ley Marcial en Polonia el 13 de diciembre de 1981 representa un hecho histórico de profundas repercusiones en la fase final de la Guerra Fría. Supone el fin de una etapa de esperanza y renovación en Polonia personificada por el sindicato Solidaridad. También implica la primera fisura dentro del bloque soviético que será clave para entender la crisis final del comunismo y de la Unión Soviética. El objetivo del trabajo es presentar la postura que adopta El País respecto a estos hechos, ya que, como periódico de vocación internacional y de importante tirada, refleja la reacción de la opinión pública española ante el decreto de la Ley Marcial durante todo el mes de diciembre de 1981.

The proclamation of martial law in Poland on December 13, 1981 exemplifies a historical fact with a profound impact on the final phase of the Cold War. It marks the end of an era of hope and renovation in Poland personified by the trade union Solidarity. It also represents the first crisis in the Soviet Bloc that is key to understand the final crisis of communism and the Soviet Union. The aim of this paper is to present the position adopted by El País in regard to these facts, because, as a newspaper with an international vocation and important dissemination, it reflects the reaction of the Spanish public opinion to the decree of Martial Law throughout the month of December 1981.
