La iglesia de Santiago del Colegio de los Jesuítas en Arévalo: una intervención inédita de Pedro Mato

Abstract

This paper investigates the different constructive phases of the church of Santiago, in the Jesuit college of Arévalo (Ávila, Spain), which began under the patronage of D.Hernán Tello, in the late sixteenth century. The temple was completed in four phases, chronologically differentiated, in one of which has been discovered the authorship of the Jesuit architect Pedro Mato, who designed the trace of the church in the midseventeenth century. This work has also demonstrated for the first time the participation of the architect Francisco Cillero in the cloister of the college.

Este trabajo investiga las distintas fases constructivas de la iglesia de Santiago del colegio de los jesuitas de Arévalo (Ávila), que se inicia bajo el patronazgo de don Hernán Tello, a finales del siglo XVI. El templo se completa en cuatro fases, cronológicamente diferenciadas, en una de la cuales se ha descubierto la autoría del arquitecto jesuita Pedro Mato, que da la traza de la misma, a mitad del siglo XVII. También, de forma inédita, se ha podido probar la participación del arquitecto Francisco Cillero en el claustro del colegio.
