dc.description.abstract | This project shows the need for accurate characterization of different fibers and optical components in order to be used for SDM optical communications, along with a transition from the single-mode to the multi-mode domain, due to the capacity limitations of standard single-mode communications. To deal with the main characteristics of multi-mode optical communications, various methods are proposed and discussed. Simulations and further experimental measurements are carried out to validate the accuracy and reliability. The simulations are conducted using a model in VPI Transmission Maker®, while the experimental validation is performed using an Optical Vector Analyzer. As drawbacks and limitations are encountered from both validations, further work is proposed to improve the performance in future experiments. | es |
