Abstract

Las tierras sernas de Medina del Campo y su tierra fueron un dominio territorial de titularidad difusa, administradas por el Concejo medinense desde sus orígenes bajo medievales hasta su práctica desaparición a finales del siglo XIX. Fueron explotadas por los vecinos de la villa, y los pueblos de su amplia jurisdicción, bajo un sistema de libre acceso a la tierra por cuya explotación y laboreo pagaban una renta anual. El pago de esta renta les garantizaba el usufructo de la tierra de por vida y los beneficios de estas rentas se engrosaban en los propios del Concejo medinense.

The Sernas lands of Medina del Campo and its land were a diffuse property domain, administered by the Medina’s Council from its origins in the Middle Ages until its practical disappearance at the end of the XIX century. They were exploited by the villagers and the terms of their broad jurisdiction, under a free system of access to land for whose exploitation and tillage they paid an annual rent. The payment of this rent guaranteed them the usufruct of the land for life and the benefits of these rents were thickened in those of the medina’s Council.
