La cultura visual y su influencia en el alumnado de educación primaria

Abstract

La cultura visual es el conjunto de elementos visuales que rodean e influyen a una sociedad, condicionando su forma de vivir. Actualmente, se encuentra sobreexpuesta a un conjunto de imágenes que transmiten símbolos y mensajes para los que el alumno no tiene conciencia de sus efectos. Esta sobreexposición se ha intensificado y globalizado en los últimos años como consecuencia de los avances tecnológicos. Por esa razón, es tarea de la educación formar a los alumnos/as desde la etapa de Educación Primaria en el campo de la cultura visual. De esta forma guiaremos a los niños/as hacia una adecuada comprensión e interpretación del mundo de las imágenes, el desarrollo de un pensamiento más crítico y contribuir a la constitución su propio pensamiento. No solo se trata de aprender a leer una imagen, sino de conocer críticamente los significados que estas imágenes ocultan y las diferentes manifestaciones artísticas de cada cultura.

ABSTRACT Visual culture is the set of visual elements that surround and influence a society conditioning their way of living and thinking. Currently the society is overexposed to a set of images that transmit symbols and messages for which the students are not accustomed to seeing. That overexposure has intensified and globalized in recent years as a result of the great technology advances. For that reason, it is the task of education to train students from the stage of Primary Education in the field of visual culture. In this way we will guide the children towards an adequate understanding and interpretation of the world of images, the development of a more critical thinking and contribute to the constitution of their own thinking. On the other hand, artistic education lives a complex and difficult situation while trying to respond to the change in the theory of knowledge of social sciences and education. The current visions of art have led very clearly to establish that the purpose of an artistic education in visual culture would be to learn what is meaningful, critical and plural. It is not about learning to read an image, but about knowing critically the different artistic manifestations of each culture
