Resumen
In addition to his fame as a composer of symphonic works, Suriñach ( 1915-1997) has won remarkable international distinction in the field of dance. Suriñach 's extensive cultural background is reflected in several ways. His Spanish nature is demonstrated in the Flamenco tone of his art. His German training reveals itself in a structural integrity along with a very expressive way to convey. His French experience shows in the clarity of his musical thought. His American atributes are his energy, vitality and sweetnes of sentiment. Suriñach's musical scores has been featured in the repertoires of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Pearl Lang, the Ballet Rambert of England and Antonio and his Ballets de Madrid. The Eyes of the Goddes ( 1991 ), choreographed by Martha Graham, was also the latest ballet by Suriñach, whose American career began in 1952 with the performance of a piece at an all-percusion concert at The Museum of Modern Art. Since then, comission has followed comission almost without interruption. His music has been played in the major theaters of the world and his works are in the repertories of most American dance companies. This paper is followed by a list which contents Suriñach's ballet works.
