La estructura de hormigón de las "villas blancas" de Le Corbusier

Abstract

Se analizan los planos de estructura de las “villas blancas” de Le Corbusier, que apenas han sido publicados. En ellas experimentó con el sistema estructural más característico de la modernidad: la retícula de planta libre. Utilizó porticos convencionales de hormigón, pero convirtió las vigas y pilotis en elementos plásticos, que se despliegan entre las divisiones para crear una “promenade” visual. Así se configura un espacio purista por superposición de diferentes vistas y tiempos. La trama se altera y disuelve, pero gana en complejidad y multiplicidad, incorporando la estructura fragmentada al movimiento. Se sirve de las características del hormigón, sin cuya moldeabilidad no se podría articular este ensamblaje de formas objetuales.

This paper focuses on the analysis of the structural plans of the "white villas" of Le Corbusier, which have not been published and are preserved in his Fondation. In them he experimented with the most characteristic structural system of modernity: the “plan libre” grid. He used the concrete in a traditional way, but he converted the beams and pilotis into plastic elements, that coexist with the partitions to create a visual “promenade”. This is how a cubist space is configured by superimposing different views and times. The structural grid dissolves, but gains in complexity and multiplicity, incorporating the fragmented structure to the movement. This is possible due to the characteristics of concrete, without whose moldability this assemblage of purist and object forms could not be articulated.
