Entre Europa y América: pleitos y objetos foráneos

Abstract

La documentación judicial ofrece interesantes posibilidades para el estudio de los objetos foráneos en el espacio atlántico. Este trabajo se centra en pleitos del siglo XVI, de diferentes tribunales de justicia de la monarquía hispánica en España y América. En ellos es posible encontrar cartas que hablan de envíos, inventarios y cuentas en las que aparecen artículos exóticos, joyas y otros objetos más accesibles de la cultura material de ambas orillas del Atlántico.

Court documents offer interesting possibilities for the study of foreign objects on both sides of the Atlantic. This work focuses on 16th century lawsuits from various law courts of the Hispanic monarchy in both Spain and America. In such sources, it is possible to find letters that speak of deliveries, inventories and accounts containing exotic articles, jewellery, and other, more accessible objects of the material culture that originate on both sides of the Atlantic.
