Spanish society is an aging society, and forecasts for the future tell us that this aging of society will increase in the coming decades. Despite the fact that aging is a phenomenon that affects the entire population (although in a different way for each person), there is a considerable amount of prejudice about this process and about the people who suffer from it in what we call the stage of old age. This work, predominantly theoretical, aims to study the aging process, as well as the models that have been developed during the last decades with the objective of promoting a change in society regarding the image and treatment given to this group. It is also intended to deepen in the concept of ageism with the aim of knowing its origin, cause and the effects it has on society, always from the perspective of gerontological social work.es
