La protección de las minorías en la Unión Europea: El caso de la minoría romaní

Abstract

Fenómenos históricos y sociales han obligado a las instituciones europeas a incluir en sus programas, normas, políticas y mecanismos dirigidos a mejorar la situación de las minorías en la Unión. La minoría Romaní es la más “importante” en Europa. Su integración y el respeto de sus derechos sigue siendo una tarea pendiente para la Unión Europea. Este trabajo se propone exponer y analizar el trabajo de la Unión Europea en este ámbito y las medidas adoptadas que tienen como fin lograr una mayor integración y entendimiento entre los grupos mayoritarios y la minoría romaní. Se partirá de la hipótesis: “Es necesario fortalecer el trabajo de la Unión Europea en materia de protección de las minorías para garantizar el respeto de sus derechos”.

Historical and social phenomena have forced European institutions to include in their programmes, policies and mechanisms aimed at improving the situation of minorities in the Union. The Roma minority is the most "important" minority in Europe. Their integration and the respect of their rights is still a pending task for the European Union. This paper aims to present and analyse the work of the European Union in this field and the measures taken to achieve greater integration and understanding between the majority groups and the Roma minority. It will start from the hypothesis: "It is necessary to strengthen the work of the European Union on the protection of minorities in order to ensure respect for their rights".
