El mito numantino como fuente del espíritu patriótico y militar en España

Abstract

Numancia es un hecho histórico sobradamente conocido, utilizado en la actualidad como reclamo turístico cultural de la provincia de Soria, pero es menos reconocida su utilización como base de la creación del espíritu nacional desde el origen del cristianismo en la península Ibérica, pasando por la Alta Edad Media, por el Renacimiento y por todas las etapas históricas de España, salvo en las dos últimas décadas del siglo XX, cuando se intentó desligar del espíritu patriótico por haber sido éste uno de los pilares fundamentales del nacional catolicismo durante el régimen del general Franco. También el mito numantino ha sido utilizado por los ejércitos a lo largo de la historia y por las actuales Fuerzas Armadas españolas para la creación de un férreo espíritu militar de no retroceso frente al enemigo y poder así sobrellevar mejor las penurias del soldado en la guerra.
