Análisis del tratamiento informativo del fraude fiscal en la huida de Juan Carlos I a Dubai

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo estudiar la cobertura mediática de los diarios ABC, El País, The New York Times y The Guardian durante la primera mitad del mes de agosto de 2020, cuando se produjo la huida del rey emérito a Emiratos Árabes en medio de investigaciones fiscales a su fortuna. La elección de medios de distinta línea ideológica y pertenecientes a países con distintas formas de Estado pretende averiguar si estas características motivan un tratamiento informativo diferenciado. La falta de comunicados oficiales propició diversas especulaciones en cuanto al paradero de Juan Carlos I, por lo que este trabajo pretende indagar en las fuentes que los distintos medios citados utilizaron a través del análisis de 89 artículos periodísticos y para ello se recurre a la metodología de análisis de contenido, que permite conocer tanto los mensajes literales como los aspectos que influyen y pueden llegar a condicionarles. Las conclusiones indican que todos los diarios analizados relacionaron la huida del emérito con las investigaciones por fraude fiscal a las que se estaba viendo sometido, aunque difirieron en cuanto a la opinión que les merecía el hecho de la huida. Además, los periódicos analizados tampoco coincidieron en el tipo de fuentes que utilizaron para informar sobre el emérito.

The aim of this research is to study the media coverage of the newspapers ABC, El País, The New York Times and The Guardian during the first half of August 2020, when the former king of Spain fled to the Arab Emirates in the midst of tax investigations into his fortune. The choice of media with different ideological lines and belonging to countries with different forms of state aims to find out if these characteristics motivate a differentiated treatment of the news. The lack of official press releases led to speculation about the whereabouts of Juan Carlos I, which is why this paper aims to investigate the sources used by the various media outlets through the analysis of 89 journalistic articles. For this purpose, we use the content analysis methodology which allows us to know both the literal messages and the aspects that may have influenced them. The conclusions indicate that all the newspapers linked the flight of the former king of Spain with the investigations into tax fraud to which he was being subjected, although they differed in their opinion of the flight. Moreover, the newspapers analyzed did not agree on the type of sources they used to report on the former king.
