La vestimenta del siglo XVIII en España a través de la iconografía: cultura y mentalidades

Abstract

A pesar de que a lo largo de la historia la apariencia pública ha sido de vital importancia, será en el siglo XVIII cuándo va a adquirir una nueva concepción. Nos encontramos en un momento en donde Francia era el núcleo de poder hegemónico a todos los niveles. Es allí donde se dictarán los nuevos designios de la moda, a los que se le sumarán otros países como Inglaterra o Polonia e incluso modas de Oriente. Todas ellas van a confluir en el caso español a raíz del cambio de la dinastía en donde asistiremos a un momento de cambios y contradicciones en la sociedad debido a la introducción de influencias foráneas, principalmente francesas, frente a las tradiciones españolas que quedara bien reflejado en la vestimenta y el arte.

Despite the fact that throughout history public appearance has been of vital importance, it will be in the 18th century when it will acquire a new conception. We are at a time when France was the hegemonic nucleus at all levels. It is there where the new fashion designs will be dictated, to which other countries such as England or Poland and even fashions from the East will be added. All of them will come together in the Spanish case as a result of the change of the dynasty where we will witness a moment of changes and contradictions in society due to the introduction of foreign influences, mainly French, against the Spanish traditions that will be well reflected in clothing and art.
