Las criptomonedas como medios de pago

Abstract

Las criptomonedas se presentan como unos activos digitales orientados a revolucionar el sistema financiero y monetario. Ante el exponencial crecimiento sufrido en los últimos años por estos instrumentos, se plantea la posibilidad de que efectivamente puedan servir como medios de pago sustitutivos de las monedas de curso legal. La tecnología de registro distribuido y la criptografía confieren a las criptomonedas un carácter innovador nunca visto en el tráfico jurídico. Estos activos, no obstante, presentan una serie de inconvenientes y problemas que habrán de ser resueltos para poder lograr su adopción masiva por parte de la sociedad.

Cryptocurrencies are settled as digital assets intended to revolutionize the financial and monetary system. Considering the exponential growth experienced by these instruments over the last years, it raises the possibility of considering them as a means of payment substitute for legal tenders. Both distributed ledger technology and cryptography confer an innovative value to cryptocurrencies never seen before in the legal framework. Nevertheless, these assets carry a series of drawbacks and issues that will need to be solved to achieve its massive adoption by the society.
