Peggy Guggenheim mecenas y su visión del coleccionismo

Abstract

La coleccionista Peggy Guggenheim nació en Nueva York (EE.UU) en el año 1898 y falleció en Camposampiero (Italia) en 1979. Se trasladó a París con tan solo veinte dos años y fue allí donde comenzó su trayectoria como coleccionista, estableciendo una serie de relaciones con los artistas del momento, que posteriormente se convertirían en relaciones laborales. En dos ocasiones llegó a establecer una galería de arte, la primera de ellas en Londres y la segunda en Nueva York, lugar al que tuvo que trasladarse debido al estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tras el final de la guerra regresó a Europa, concretamente a Venecia, en donde vivió el resto de su vida. Fue allí donde consiguió materializar la idea de crear un museo a partir de su colección. En la actualidad, la colección y labor de Peggy goza de un gran prestigio, y se puede visitar su museo en la que fue su casa, el Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, que descansa sobre el Gran Canal.

The collector Peggy Guggenheim was born in New York (USA) in 1898 and died in Camposampiero (Italy) in 1979. She moved to Paris when she was only twenty-two years old and it was there where she began her career as a collector, establishing a series of relationships with the artists of the time, which would later become working relationships. On two occasions he established an art gallery, the first in London and the second in New York, where he had to move due to the outbreak of World War II. After the end of the war he returned to Europe, specifically to Venice, where he lived the rest of his life. It was there where he managed to materialize the idea of creating a museum from his collection. Today, Peggy's collection and work enjoys great prestige, and her museum can be visited in her former home, the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, which rests on the Grand Canal.
