Reportaje multimedia: “Homofobia, una guerra por luchar”

Abstract

El periodismo social tiene el poder de actuar para provocar un cambio social y para denunciar situaciones de injusticia. En la actualidad, esta praxis periodística se plantea imprescindible: los últimos datos del Ministerio del Interior reflejan un aumento en los delitos de odio en España de casi el 68%, alcanzando los 466 casos en 2022. Sin embargo, solo se denuncia, aproximadamente, 1 de cada 10 sucesos de homofobia en el país. Esto resalta la necesidad de hacer frente a la intolerancia, también por parte de los medios. El presente Trabajo Fin de Grado recuerda el asesinato de Samuel Luiz, un joven de 24 años que fue brutalmente asesinado. Inicialmente, los medios informaron del incidente como una paliza, sin mencionar la homofobia subyacente en la agresión. Sin embargo, a través de las redes sociales y de la campaña #JUSTICIAPARASAMUEL, se exigió una investigación transparente y se pidió que se considerase el crimen como un acto de odio basado en la orientación sexual de la víctima. Este estudio también refleja el acoso homófobo sufrido por Alfredo Corell y se explica la definición de los delitos con agravante de odio de la mano de expertos en la materia. Posteriormente se aborda la historia, y la situación actual del colectivo en Valladolid, destacando la importancia de recordar el pasado para comprender el presente y buscar un futuro mejor. Por último, se menciona la labor de la Fundación Triángulo, una asociación que lucha por la igualdad y la defensa de la salud pública y universal para el grupo LGTBI+ en Castilla y León. Social journalism has the power to act to provoke social change and to denounce situations of injustice. Currently, this journalistic practice is essential: the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior reflect an increase in hate crimes in Spain of almost 68%, reaching 466 cases in 2022. However, only approximately 1 in 10 homophobic incidents in the country are reported. This highlights the need to confront intolerance, also on the part of the media. This thesis recalls the murder of Samuel Luiz, a 24-year-old man who was brutally murdered. Initially, the media reported the incident as a beating, without mentioning the underlying homophobia in the aggression. However, through social media and the #JUSTICIAPARASAMUEL campaign, they demanded a transparent investigation and called for the crime to be considered an act of hate based on the victim's sexual orientation. This study also reflects the homophobic harassment suffered by Alfredo Corell and explains the definition of aggravated hate crimes by experts in the field. Subsequently, the history and current situation of the group in Valladolid is discussed, highlighting the importance of remembering the past in order to understand the present and seek a better future. Finally, mention is made of the work of Fundación Triángulo, an association that fights for equality and the defense of public and universal health for the LGTBI+ group in Castilla y León.
