La Real Armada en el siglo XVIII, el escudo colonial. Génesis, estrategia, táctica y consolidación en las aguas americanas.

Abstract

La Armada española tiene su origen durante el siglo XVIII, gracias al nuevo panorama político con el cual se encontraron los primeros Borbones tras el Tratado de Utrecht de 1713. Este trabajo tiene como meta, el análisis de esta institución y su estrategia en su contexto americano. El análisis se centrará en la génesis y desarrollo de la Real Armada y su estrategia, táctica y desempeño en aguas americanas, analizando en este último punto, la aplicación práctica de la estrategia en la Guerra del Asiento y la Guerra de Independencia de las Trece Colonias. Por último, este estudio concluirá con una reflexión del papel esencial de la Armada para el sistema colonial español del siglo XVIII y su desarrollo.

The Spanish Navy had its origins during the 18th century, thanks to the new political landscape that the first Bourbons encountered after the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. This work aims to analyze this institution and its strategy in its American context. The analysis will focus on the genesis and development of the Real Armada and its strategy, tactics, and performance in American waters. In this last point, it will examine the practical application of the strategy in the War of Jenkins' Ear and the War of Independence of the Thirteen Colonies. Finally, this study will conclude with a reflection on the essential role of the Armada for the Spanish colonial system of the 18th century and its development.
