Giuseppe Samona Concurso de la Camara de Diputados. La profundidad del tiempo.

Abstract

Giuseppe Samonà proyectó en 1967 para el Concurso de la Cámara de los Diputados en Roma una lúcida síntesis de algunas de las preocupaciones más importantes del debate arquitectónico de la época y aplicó significativas estrategias formales en el modo de afrontar las relaciones entre arquitectura y ciudad y, en particular, su inserción en el debate sobre los centros históricos que, para Samonà, no era sino una parte de un debate más general sobre el tema de la unidad arquitectura y urbanística. Se analizan a continuación algunos de los mecanismos característicos de Samonà, la idea del continuo urbano frente al problema de la relación entre tipología y morfología, la cuarta dimensión, el apilamiento libre de tipologías diferentes y la sección esponjada, como estrategias idóneas para intervenir en el centro histórico, explotando la creatividad implícita en la compleja realidad funcional, técnica y simbólica, y la creación de umbráculos urbanos que transparentan, en el espacio y en la profundidad del tiempo, la imagen heredada de la ciudad histórica en diálogo con una arquitectura plenamente moderna.

Giuseppe Samonà designed in 1967 a project for the contest of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome and managed a lucid synthesis of some of the most important concerns of the architectural debate of the age and employed memorable formal strategies in the way of dealing with the relations between architecture and city and, in particular, its inclusion in the debate on the historical centres which, for Samonà, was a part of a largest debate on the theme of the unity between architecture and planning. We will discuss some of the characteristic mechanisms of Samonà, the idea of the urban continuum versus the problem about the rela- tionship between typology and morphology, the fourth dimension, the free stacking of the different types and the fluffy section, as suitable strategies to take part in the historical center, exploiting the implied creativity in the complex and functional, technical and symbolic reality, and the creation of outdoor shade structures that show through the space and the time depth the inherited image of the historic city in dialogue with a fully modern architecture.
