Abstract

The article contains a study which shows, firstly, the unprecedented link between Le Corbusier's project for the Venice Hospital and Giannantonio Selva's project for the San Michele cemetery in Venice. Secondly, in line with this last idea, it brings clarity to the debate on Le Corbusier's attitude towards the identity of the city of Venice, from its design and its image. Thus, the debate is transferred to the silhouette as the only figure truly perceptible to our eyes from the land or in this case mainly from the water. In this way it is related to the drawing of the city of Venice in the "Poem of the Right Angle" together with one of its verses: "The universe of our eyes rests on a plain bordered by the horizon. The face turned to the sky. Let us consider the inconceivable space until now misunderstood. Rest, spread out, sleep-die”. El artículo recoge un estudio en donde se muestra, en primer lugar, la inédita relación vinculante entre el proyecto del Hospital de Venecia de Le Corbusier con el proyecto de Giannantonio Selva para el cementerio de San Michele de Venecia. En segundo lugar, al hilo de esta última idea, aporta claridad al debate sobre su actitud de Le Corbusier frente a la identidad de la ciudad de Venecia, desde su traza y su imagen. Así, se traslada el debate a la silueta como única figura realmente perceptible a nuestros ojos desde la tierra o en este caso principalmente desde el agua. De este modo se relaciona con el dibujo de la ciudad de Venecia en el “Poema del ángulo recto” junto a uno de sus versos: “El universo de nuestros ojos reposa sobre un llano bordeado de horizonte. El rostro vuelto al cielo. Consideremos el espacio inconcebible hasta ahora incomprendido. Descansar extenderse dormir-morir”.
