Abstract

This article studies the Cinema Scala built in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland) in 1916. The cinema was designed by the architect Charles Édouard Jeanneret (who later took the name of Le Corbusier) in his hometown. Le Corbusier thus built one of the first buildings in Europe exclusively dedicated to film projections. The significance of this work is studied in two ways: first, derived from the war situation in which Switzerland was surrounded, lacking iron for the war, and the technical solution adopted by the young architect. Second, the typological innovation solution devised by Le Corbusier, which was subsequently followed by thousands of cinemas, consisting of a box space, with a slight slope in the seating area and an amphitheater overhanging the room. Cinema proyectado por el arquitecto Charles Édouard Jeanneret (quien después tomará en nombre de Le Corbusier) en su ciudad natal. Le Corbusier construyó así uno de los primeros edificios de Europa exclusivamente dedicado a proyecciones de películas. La trascendencia estudiada de esta obra está en una doble dirección, en primer lugar, derivada de la situación bélica en la que se encontraba rodeada Suiza, carente de hierro destinado la contienda, y la solución técnica que el joven arquitecto adoptó. En segundo lugar, la solución de innovación tipológica ideada por Le Corbusier, que posteriormente siguieron miles de cines, consistente en un espacio caja, con pequeña pendiente en la sala de butacas y un anfiteatro en visera sobre la sala.
