El yihad de los sultanes nazaríes. Discursos de legitimidad y acciones consecuentes de una dinastía en defensa de al-Andalus

Abstract

En este trabajo tratamos de constatar la gran importancia del yihad para la dinastía Banū Naṣr (al-Andalus, 1232-1492) y el compromiso de esta en el cumplimiento del precepto islámico para la estabilidad política e institucional del Emirato Nazarí. Apoyándonos en una amplia selección de fuentes árabes del periodo nazarí, ofrecemos una nueva perspectiva sobre la alta implicación en la guerra por parte de los sultanes nazaríes, en contraste con los esquemas que apuntaban al desinterés o falta de esfuerzo de los andalusíes en el yihad en etapas previas. Presentamos un análisis diacrónico que trata el yihad de la mayoría de los emires de Granada, observando tanto la imagen idealizada en inscripciones, como la actividad militar que quedó registrada en crónicas o correspondencia diplomática, llegando a la conclusión de que el yihad de los Banū Naṣr ‒tanto su discurso como su práctica‒ fueron un pilar fundamental del Emirato Nazarí.

In this essay we try to prove the great importance of jihad for the Banū Naṣr dynasty (al-Andalus, 1232-1492) and its commitment to the observance of the Islamic precept for the political and institutional stability of the Nasrid Emirate. Relying on a wide selection of Arabic sources from the Nasrid period, we offer a new perspective on the high involvement in warfare on the part of the Nasrid sultans, in contrast to the conjectures that pointed to the disinterest or lack of effort of the Andalusians in the jihad in previous stages. We present a diachronic analysis that deals with the jihad of most of the emirs of Granada, observing both the idealized image in inscriptions and the military activity that was recorded in chronicles or diplomatic correspondence. Consequently, we reach the conclusion that the jihad of the Banū Naṣr -both their discourse and practice- constituted a fundamental pillar of the Nasrid Emirate.
