Lucernas romanas producidas en el torno de alfarero en el suroeste peninsular: apuntes sobre su origen, consumo y dispersión

Abstract

This work represents a first analysis of a very specific type of Roman lamps, unusual in the west of the Iberian Pen-insula, offers atypical morphologies often confused with other types. The wheel-made lamps are a common reality during the imperial period in the eastern part of the Empire, not seeming improbable that they have also reached western geographies. Aware that this study may be rather incomplete, a situation that is due to the little attention that is usually given to these arti-facts, we intend to draw a preliminary picture of their origin and spreading and at the same time stimulate future publications of these lamps. Although their presence in the West is not abundant, we are surely facing an eventual and independent “lychno-logical series”.
