El Sáhara Occidental es, a día de hoy, el único territorio africano pendiente de
descolonización. Han transcurrido casi cincuenta años desde que la potencia
administradora, España, abandonara el territorio. Desde entonces, los diversos
intereses geopolíticos en la región han hecho infructuosos los múltiples intentos
de acuerdo que permitieran al pueblo saharaui ejercer su derecho a la
autodeterminación recogida, tal como establece la Resolución 1514 (XV) de la
Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas. Mediante un análisis riguroso, este
trabajo pretende arrojar luz sobre la cuestión del Sáhara Occidental, a partir de
un exhaustivo examen jurídico de las causas y consecuencias del
enquistamiento de un conflicto que, a día de hoy, no parece tener una solución
próxima.
Western Sahara is currently the only African territory awaiting decolonisation.
Almost fifty years have passed since the administering power, Spain, left the
territory. Since then, the various geopolitical interests in the region have
rendered fruitless the multiple attempts at agreement that would allow the
Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, as established in
Resolution 1514 (XV) of the United Nations General Assembly. Through
rigorous analysis, this work aims to shed light on the issue of Western Sahara,
based on an exhaustive legal examination of the causes and consequences of
the entrenchment of a conflict that, to date, does not seem to have a solution in
sight.
