    Abstract
This study analyses the representation of marine environments in Spanish and English general press, focusing on the conceptual relationships and semantic associations of the lemmas mar, océano, sea, and ocean. The research, based on a comparable corpus of texts, explores the pre-dominant themes in these representations contrastively (English/Spanish). To extract quanti-tative data from the corpus relating to collocations, keywords, and semantic and grammatical relationships of the lemmas, the Sketch Engine tool is used. The results indicate that there are differences in the themes addressed in both languages. The Spanish press tends to emphasise social, cultural and environmental aspects, while the English press focuses more on issues re-lated to industry, ecology, and science.
