Considering unboundedmortality rates causes difficulties in the numerical simulation of finite life-span population models. In this work, a suitable numerical technique is introduced in order to approximate the density solution of this kind of problems. This procedure isolates the principal complication for the problem: the approximation of the survival probability. Therefore, assuming second-order approximations to the survival probability, we propose a numerical method for the age-structured population model with the same order of convergence. The accuracy of the numerical approximations is proved and numerically illustrated.es
