Colegios Mayores universitarios de Santa Cruz y San Gregorio de Valladolid

Abstract

Los Colegios mayores de Santa Cruz y San Gregorio han sido dos instituciones emblemáticas en la Universidad vallisoletana. Fundados en el reinado de los Reyes Católicos por dos eclesiásticos poderosos que ubicaron sus instituciones en magnificas edificaciones que han perdurado con el paso del tiempo. Su función como centro colegial terminó con la suspensión de este tipo de instituciones pasando los edificios a utilizarse para otros fines. Actualmente el Palacio de Santa Cruz se emplea como dependencias universitarias y sede del Rectorado de la Universidad de Valladolid y el de San Gregorio como Museo. Ambas instituciones han tenido una rica historia plagada de eventos y anécdotas en sus más de cuatrocientos años de historia.

The Colleges of Santa Cruz and San Gregorio have been two emblematic institutions at the University of Valladolid. Founded in the reign of the Catholic Monarchs by two powerful ecclesiastics who located their institutions in magnificent buildings that have endured over time. Its function as a collegiate center ended with the suspension of this type of institution and the buildings were used for other purposes. Currently the Santa Cruz Palace is used as university premises and headquarters of the Rectorate of the University of Valladolid and the San Gregorio Palace as a Museum. Both institutions have had a rich history full of events and anecdotes in their more than four hundred years of history.
