pujas por el segundo retablo mayor de la Catedral de Bogotá y su reforma en el siglo XVIII: un rosario de datos inéditos sobre arte neogranadino

Abstract

El hallazgo de un documento donde se recogen las diferentes pujas hechas en 1708 por diferentes artistas neogranadinos para la ejecución del nuevo retablo mayor de la Catedral de Bogotá, nos deja un rosario de datos inéditos sobre ensambladores, escultores, doradores, pintores y plateros, así como de varias obras que estos artífices realizaron. Además, esta documentación nos permite trazar la evolución de los diferentes retablos que ha tenido el templo bogotano e identificar la procedencia de varias piezas que a partir del siglo XIX se dispersaron tanto por el templo como por otras colecciones externas.

The discovery of a document that records the different bids made in 1708 by different artists from the New Granada for the execution of the new main altarpiece of the Bogotá Cathedral, leaves us with a string of previously unpublished data on assemblers, sculptors, gilders, painters and silversmiths, as well as various works that these craftsmen produced. In addition, this documentation allows us to trace the evolution of the different altarpieces that the Bogotá temple has had and to identify the origin of several pieces that from the 19th century onwards were dispersed both throughout the temple and in other external collections.
