Policromía y versatilidad en el empleo del grafio en la escultura de San Antonio de Padua, obra de Juan de Juni

Abstract

El artículo se ocupa del estudio de la policromía en la escultura, aspecto no suficientemente valorado por la historiografía, aunque en los últimos años se han comenzado a publicar ciertas aportaciones sobre ello. Como ejemplo se ha elegido la escultura de San Antonio de Padua, realizada por Juan de Juni (ca. 1507-1577) y perteneciente a la colección permanente del Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid, obra de gran interés, tanto por la problemática que plantea como por el salto cualitativo que supone el uso del grafio en el esgrafiado de su policromía.

The article focuses on the stydy of polycromy in the sculpture, a topic that is not jet sufficiently valued. Only in recent years have publications on the subject begun to appear. Specifically, this approach focuses on the sculpture SaintAnthony of Padua, by Juan de Juni (ca. 1507-1577) that is part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Sculpture of Valladolid, a work of great interest, both because of the problems it poses and because of the qualitative leap represented by the use of stylus in sgraffito of its polychromy.
