Socorriendo al necesitado: el caso del Hospicio de Palencia (1750-1850)

Abstract

Con este trabajo se pretende dar a conocer la historia del hospicio de Palencia desde su fundación en el año 1766 hasta la promulgación de la Ley de Beneficencia de 1849. Valiéndonos de los reglamentos, informes, memoriales, pedimentos y denuncias que se presentaron ante la autoridad municipal, pretendemos analizar los motivos que dieron lugar a su creación; saber cómo funcionaba la institución; conocer el régimen al estaban sometidos sus huéspedes; y averiguar las fuentes de financiación de las que gozó a lo largo del tiempo. Cuestiones que nos permitirán acercarnos al tratamiento que recibió la población marginada.

This work aims to make known the history of the Palencia hospice from its foundation in 1766 until the promulgation of the Charity Act of 1849. Using the regulations, reports, memorials, petitions and complaints that were presented to the municipal authority, we aim to analyze the reasons that led to its creation; find out how the institution worked; learn about the regime to which its guests were subjected; and find out the sources of financing that it enjoyed over time. Questions that will allow us to get closer to the treatment received by the marginalized population.
