Los servidores de beneficios parroquiales en la Sevilla moderna (siglos XVII-XVIII)

Abstract

El bajo clero en buena medida continúa siendo un gran desconocido para la historiografía, aunque en los últimos años los investigadores han ido dando cada vez mayor luz a la historia social del clero. Algunos colectivos como los servidores de beneficios parroquiales, también conocidos entonces como vicebeneficiados, han sido estudiados muy parcialmente hasta ahora. Por esta razón, el objetivo principal de la presente investigación es acercarnos al análisis de este perfil dentro del colectivo eclesiástico moderno. Para ello se desarrollarán aquí tres apartados, el análisis de los individuos, incluyendo aspectos su distribución en la ciudad, las responsabilidades de los servidores y la conflictividad producida en el cumplimiento de sus funciones sacerdotales.

The lower clergy remains lagerly unknown to historiography, although in recent years researchers have been shedding more and more light on the Social History of the clergy. Some groups, such as the servants of parish beneficies, also known at the time as vice-beneficiaries, have been only partially studied until now. For this reason, the main objective of the present research is to approach the analysis of this profile within the modern ecclesiastical collective. To this end, three aspects will be developed here: the analysis of the individuals, including aspects of their distribution in the city, the responsibilities or the servants and the conflict produced in the fulfilment of their priestly functions.
