Anticlericalismo en la España del primer tercio del siglo XX. Niceto Alcalá-Zamora y la cuestión religiosa

Abstract

En el siglo XIX había comenzado a germinar en España un movimiento laicista y anticlerical, ya plenamente presente durante el reinado de Alfonso XIII, que iba a eclosionar tras la proclamación de la Segunda República. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar su evolución durante el primer tercio del siglo XX, poniendo especial foco en la complicada posición ideológica de un católico liberal como Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, y especialmente a partir de su etapa al frente de la Presidencia del Gobierno Provisional, cuando las Cortes Constituyentes aprobaron los artículos 3, 26 y 27 en relación con la cuestión religiosa.

In the 19th century, a secular and anticlerical movement had stared to germinate in Spain, fully present during the reign of Alfonso XIII, which was to emerge after the proclamation of the Second Republic. The objective of this article is to analyze its evolution during the first third of the 20th century, placing special focus on the complicated ideological position of a liberal Catholic like Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, and especially from his time at the head of the Presidency of the Provisional Government, when the Constituent Cortes approved articles 3, 26 and 27 in relation to the religious issue.
